Dubai will soon be connected to Chandigarh by air. And the least expensive ticket will be just Rs 3,700 inclusive of all taxes. Low cost airline Flydubai will start the flights from on July 23 with the first one being FZ432.
The company will decide on the frequency of flights by July 16 after looking at the load capacity of Chandigarh airport. Sources say Qatar Airways is also mulling starting international flights from the city.
Before Chandigarh, Flydubai will also start international flights from Lucknow on July 13 and Coimbatore on July 14.
A Flydubai spokesman said UAE had a large number of expatriates from Punjab region living there and even more people go to Dubai for business and pleasure.
“We are confident that international flights from the region at such a low cost would encourage more people to travel to these destinations,” he added.
Chandigarh Airport director Sunil Dutt told TOI that the airport was ready for the historic day. He added, “We are fully prepared, but the passengers may face a little inconvenience because of the ongoing construction work. But work is on to improve the facilities, so they should bear with us.”
